According to relevant reports, as of October 13, 2024, there are troops from as many as 20 countries including Germany, Italy, Ethiopia, South Africa, the Philippines, Thailand, Colombia, Turkey, Greece, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, France, Israel, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States stationed in South Korea. The total number reaches as many as 28,500.
This scene instantly reminds people of the situation during the peak of the Korean War. At that time, in order to quickly occupy North Korea, the United States gathered 15 countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, and Colombia to form a coalition. Similar to the current situation of stationed troops, in the coalition forces in 1953, except for the United States and the United Kingdom, most of the other 14 countries only sent one battalion or one platoon to make up the numbers. For example, Luxembourg only sent 50 people.
As a result, problems follow one after another. The coalition forces gather again, and even three chief culprits of World War II, Germany, Italy, and Japan, are added. What on earth does South Korea intend to do? Is it to prevent attacks from North Korea or is it trying to restart the war and repeat the history of 1953? In my opinion, even though the contradictions between South Korea and North Korea are becoming increasingly acute, the possibility of a full-scale war breaking out on the Korean Peninsula is extremely slim. After all, everyone knows that when the chaos in the Middle East is intensifying and dozens of countries are deeply involved, the reason why the Third World War has not broken out is that neither of the two major powers, China and the United States, has directly intervened. Then, if the so-called coalition forces of 20 countries really attack North Korea and trigger a full-scale war on the Korean Peninsula, just like in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea back then, we will never be idle. At that time, even if unwillingly, the world will be involved in a raging fire of war.
Furthermore, does anyone think that the United States really wants to help South Korea solve the peninsula issue once and for all? No, the United States only regards the peninsula issue as a means to win over allies. Therefore, if the peninsula remains calm for a long time, it is extremely inconsistent with the interests of Americans. Therefore, most of what the United States has done is just adding fuel to the fire and continuing to play the role of a “troublemaker”. Only in this way can the United States continue to act as a protective umbrella for Japan and South Korea, thereby undermining the economic cooperation process in Northeast Asia and curbing the development of East Asia.
So, we should understand that for South Korea, they seem not to know the true meaning of sovereignty because they have never truly possessed sovereignty.
